Mind Maps – Maximize Your Learning Power

Mind Maps Maximize Your Learning Power

Growth in information and communication technologies (ICT) has brought an immense impact in the way education is imparted in today’s world. Elearning has emerged from being a radical idea to a mainstream-learning tool. the pervasive nature of Internet has helped in easy availability of sophisticated elearning technologies. the vast movement towards elearning is motivated by the extensive advantages that it offers to both the students and the professionals.

Elearning websites are a boon to this stressed out generation. Gen Z is turning to the Internet for help in learning and study support. New innovative websites are providing digital teaching aids to improve the teaching process. various learning tools like Mind Maps, SLMs, Live Class, and Test Centre are making it easier for the students to study, comprehend and grasp intricate topics with considerable ease.

Mind Maps for students are important study tools as they augment the learning procedure and makes studying and understanding complex topics easier. these are graphical representational tools, which can be used to organize complex concepts through association and diagrams using key words. these simplify the learning method as our mind has a power to retain better through graphic and visual association.

Our brain functions best when it compares, integrates and synthesizes what is shown to it. it associates every word with an image or a concept. the mind forms associations almost instantaneously, and mapping allows you to write your ideas quicker than expressing them using only words or phrases. various studies have proved that thinking visually improves our memorizing potential. these infact improve our creativity and foster innovative thinking pattern.

Mind Maps give an overview of large subject thus making memorizing the key points better. through this tool, a picture gets embossed on our minds, thus, making it easier to recall. it becomes easier for the students to remember large amount of information through remembering a concise, but descriptive Mind Map. Due to their aesthetic appeal, students find them easier to recall, enjoyable to look at and study. their attractive layout catches the eye and retains our attention, which makes it all the more easy to remember them.

Other than Mind Maps, Smart Learning Modules also facilitate learning. They aim to simplify the subject and reinforce understanding with the help of various graphics, animations and presentations. the chapters are explained using these methods, which aid in increasing the student’s attention and the subsequent retention powers. the contents are mapped as per class; subject and chapter that in turn form an immense help for a systematic study program.

Live Classroom imitates a classroom, which means that classes take place in real-time and connect the subject experts and students through the Internet. Students can solve their queries and interact with online tutors who are available 24×7.

In addition, Test Center is another pivotal feature of online learning. it comprises of previous years solved board papers, model test papers and practice papers to name a few. This exhaustive bank of questions help the students in assessing their concepts by taking regular tests and thus makes them more confident in facing the exams.

• Targeted leads – Can happen when you have a relevant and Premium name (e.g. CreditCards.com, GolfBalls.com). Because the name is short and relevant to a product. It’s becoming quite normal now for people to type your domain name into the browser instead of going through a search engine. (This type in traffic has been proven to convert up to 5% of visitors – whereas traditional search engine traffic averages around 1-2%) – Hence your advertising Budget will be much more cost effective.

• the correct name is a Salesman working tirelessly for you 24 hours a day. It never rests, sleeps, gets sick or moans you’re paying it too little – it just keeps working. Combined with this is the fact it’s an entire marketing campaign, that will never be outdated or irrelevant.

• If you are a new business a great name will enable you to launch your brand into the public’s mind at a very low cost, and get the kick start you need to start competing immediately in the global marketplace.

Windmill Power – The Energy of the Future

Windmill Power The Energy of the Future

Farming and ranching of vast areas in North America have been made possible through the development of windmill power to draw water from the ground. Without windmills supplying water to train stations, the American railway transport system would not have flourished and spurred economic growth across the continent.

Today, the increased concern on the effects of climate change has revitalized interest on the use of windmill power like those experienced in the early development of America. There is now a groundswell of efforts to reduce reliance on fossil fuels which has been exacerbating the global warming trend.

Use of wind power, which accounts at present for about 1.5% of the world’s electricity needs, is growing rapidly. it is estimated that between 2005 and 2008, wind-generated electric power have doubled.

High levels of wind power growth have been reported in several countries. In Denmark, power by windmill was said to have contributed 19% to that country’s electricity production. Spain and Portugal both achieved 11% , while Germany and Ireland had 7%. at last count in may 2009, it was reported that wind power is being used commercially in 80 countries around the world.

Most of these gains have been made possible through the large-scale wind farms that are typically linked to the local electric power transmission network. Smaller turbines are also utilized to supply electricity to isolated locations. at the same time, the big power companies are increasingly buying back surplus electricity produced by small domestic turbines.

Windmill power is attractive as a fossil fuel alternative because its energy source – the wind- is renewable, plentiful, widely distributed, clean, and produces no greenhouse gas emissions. furthermore, wind energy production cost has been considerably reduced and is steadily going down. In 2004, it was estimated that generating power from windmills cost only a fifth of the generation price in the 1980s. the mass production of larger multi-megawatt turbines should lead to further cost reduction and make windmill power the energy of the future.

US university applies power saving software

1309267888 31 US university applies power saving softwareGreen Government

by Johanna Morden | 2 June 2011

A top public university in the US is expecting to save US$800,000 annually in power bills through PC power management software.

This month, the Pennsylvania State University (PSU) has implemented BigFix, a software that allows PSU’s IT staff to remotely configure the power settings of computers and enable computers to go on power-save mode when idle.

The software also empowers staff to control how and when computers wake up from the power-saving state, with such options as Wake-on-LAN and scheduled wake-ups.

20,000 of PSU’s computers have been installed with BigFix.

Brian Katyl, the PSU systems design specialist, said the university could save $25 per computer per year, amounting to $800,000 or half of its yearly power bill, while cutting an equivalent of 60,000 tons of carbon emissions.

PSU will continuously boost its drive to lower power costs through increasingly aggressive power management settings. in the future, it aims to save $50 per machine annually.

Deregulation has prompted the University to seek innovative ways of decreasing consumption costs to remove US$2 million from its power budget.

The initiative began in 2009, when PSU’s Information Technology Services (ITS), Office of Physical Plant (OPP), and Applied Research Lab (ARL) tested BigFix’s usefulness in sustaining power while maintaining or enhancing the manageability of computers.

After several weeks of testing in 5,800 university computers, the University noted a large power consumption difference between computers installed with BigFix and those that were not.

Saturn’s Moons: Spacecraft Finds Evidence of a Frozen Saltwater Ocean

Saturns Moons: Spacecraft Finds Evidence of a Frozen Saltwater Ocean

The strangest world you’ve probably never heard of is located not that far from Earth. Indeed, it’s part of our own solar system, orbiting friendly, familiar Saturn — part of the planet’s giant swarm of 62 moons. Known as Enceladus after the mythological Greek giant, the moon was discovered by astronomer William Herschel in 1789 and is nothing short of a cosmic fantasyland.

Brilliantly white — it reflects almost 100% of the light that strikes it, compared with just 12% for our own moon — Enceladus is also petite: just 310 miles (500 km) across. its brilliant reflectivity is owed to its frozen surface, which is forever being swept clean and repaved by sparkling geysers of ice regularly emitted by the moon. So powerful is this so-called cryovolcanism that as Enceladus circles Saturn, it leaves a trail of crystals in its wake like a steamship chugging smoke from its stack. This icy exhaust in turn helps feed Saturn’s elaborate ring system. (See “Mission to Saturn: Beauty from the Final Frontier.”)

The only thing a looking-glass place like Enceladus lacks is life, and at the moment there’s no evidence that the moon is home to any biology at all. but a paper just released in the journal Nature brings even that remote possibility at least a little bit closer. According to the new findings, it’s now more certain than ever that Enceladus is home to a vast ocean of saltwater just beneath its frozen rind — and it’s in oceans similar to that that life emerged here on Earth.

The surprising conclusion is the result of a new analysis of data gathered by the Cassini spacecraft, which has been orbiting Saturn since 2004, barnstorming its rings, its moons and the planet itself. on several occasions during its mission, Cassini has flown close to Enceladus, as well as through the vapor plume it leaves in the rings.

On all of those occasions, the spacecraft sampled the chemistry of Enceladus’ exhaust, and each time it tasted salt. That by itself is tantalizing — at least when you’re looking for organics — but it by no means seals the biological deal. Salt can form in space when vapors nucleate down from the gas phase to the crystalline phase too, which would mean that none of it actually came from an Enceladan ocean. (See “Coolest Volcano Ever Discovered on Saturn’s Moon.”)

But not all of the salt found in the flybys was created equal. the icy vapor sampled out in the ring region had relatively low concentrations of very light salt crystals, while that sampled near Enceladus had lots of heavy, complex salts — and that fits the ocean model perfectly.

Salts form in oceans as a result of prolonged contact with subsurface minerals, which dissolve in the water and then crystallize. when cryovolcanoes blast some of that water away, the heavy salt grains require a very high ejection speed to travel very far. the energy of such a blast cannot be sustained for long, which means that the saltiest ice never travels far from the moon itself. the crystals that soar up and out to the rings are the lighter ones with little, if any, oceanic salt.

“There currently is no plausible way to produce a steady outflow of salt-rich grains … other than [via] saltwater under Enceladus’ icy surface,” said lead author Frank Postberg of Heidelberg University, who is also a Cassini team scientist. (See pictures of planet Earth from space.)

What makes this theory especially promising is that if the Enceladan ocean is going to produce life, it has all the time it needs to do so. a little moon so deep in space ought not be able to keep a water ocean from freezing, since it is too distant from the sun to feel any solar heat and too small to have a molten or sufficiently radioactive core. but two of Enceladus’ sister moons, Tethys and Dione, provide some help.

Every time those nearby satellites fly by, they give Enceladus a gravitational pluck, causing it to flex and stretch slightly. This tidal pumping generates a lot of heat — in the same way that a wire hanger can grow too hot to touch when you bend it back and forth rapidly. That not only keeps the water liquefied and, perhaps, warm, it also leads to the volcanic geysers that feed the rings.

A world that literally has a pulse just seems like it ought to have life, and the investigators themselves are showing an uncharacteristic willingness to say so. “This finding is a crucial new piece of evidence showing that environmental conditions favorable to the emergence of life can be sustained on icy bodies orbiting gas giant planets,” said Cassini project scientist Nicolas Altobelli of the European Space Agency. That may be an awfully guarded way to make so exciting a point, but in scientist-speak, it’s practically high-fiving ET.

Food Cooperative a Testament to State’s Communal Spirit

The Oklahoma Food Cooperative distribution center hums on the morning of delivery day with the energy of a legion of windmills on the prairie. Once a month, farmers and producers from across the state bring foods, plants and other homemade or homegrown specialties to a group of volunteers, which ranges from 100 to 150 people, who help organize and sort the products into orders for delivery. it is amazing to see this organization in action.

Kara Joy McKee, general operations manager for the cooperative, said during a recent trip to Washington, D.C., folks at the U.S. Department of Agriculture were impressed with not only the number of volunteers but the number of repeat volunteers. They wondered what the secret was. Her answer was simple.

“This is Oklahoma, and we are accustomed to rolling up our sleeves and doing what has to be done.”

When I arrived, K.J., as she’s known by many who work with this vivacious young lady, was shifting volunteers into the produce room.

In the doorway of the produce section, I found the unmistakable aroma of fresh strawberries. it wasn’t difficult to track it down as containers were stacked throughout the room and even waiting in a cart by the door.

This is my first time to order, though I joined several years ago. I’m not sure why I didn’t order: Timing, a busy schedule and perhaps I was a bit skeptical then about ordering online. I signed up to support the concept when the Oklahoma Food Cooperative was starting out. I can’t believe all I have been missing out on through the years now.

The fee is a once in a lifetime charge for access to a growing consortium of Oklahoma producers. The membership fee is $53 — a bargain for fresh, local foods and goods. there are some scholarships for membership available, and volunteers can work once a month for credits toward food purchases, starting at $7 per hour.

“Will work for food” is a reality for members, who come from all walks of life to make the co-op a success.

“Our serendipity is all about bringing people together — a very diverse group. Right here in our produce room we have people who are frequent international travelers. We have a surgeon, a freelance writer and people of all ages from every walk of life dedicated to our mission,” K.J. said.

I returned to the center in the evening with an ice chest and a cart to pick up my order. a little like Christmas in that after seeing all those Oklahoma products rolling into the sorting facilities, I couldn’t remember what I had ordered. Pecan halves, chicken in both boneless skinless breasts and chicken tenders, arugula, lilies, winter hardy rosemary, mustards, peanut butter, DiVine bottled water, fresh spinach, organic whole wheat flours and breading mix, collards and neatly packaged microgreens.

All the way home, I thought of things I would do with the bounty of this order. there was so much, I was glad we would be having visitors who enjoyed cooking. We did a lot of cooking and salad making in the past few days. I learned a lot from placing this first order. I need a better shopping plan next time, and online ordering really allows you to do that. I thought of this first experience as more stocking up and checking on the quality of the products, particularly the fresh produce.

The chicken tenders are being divided for two dishes. I soaked the chicken breasts in buttermilk and fried them up for a family feast. The quality of this chicken is excellent. it was extremely well trimmed of fat, pink and cut into perfect portions with lovely texture when cooked. My 2.5 pounds has gone a long way since coming home, and I even have extra King Ranch Chicken tucked into the freezer for some busy day dinners.

The co-op opens for orders the first Thursday in each month and are open for two weeks. Producers then have a week to prepare and fill orders. Deliveries are made the third Thursday of each month.

I can’t wait to find out what’s available this month as we start summer — the first peaches, tomatoes, blackberries; and in July there will be more with fresh corn and other fields of flavor. will tomorrow ever come?

How To Power Your Entire House Without Spending A Cent On Bills

1306992908 12 How To Power Your Entire House Without Spending A Cent On Bills

There is a way that you can actually access free electricity, on a permanent basis, quickly, easily and cheaply – and I am going to show you how. but first, let’s explore the more traditional ways of harnessing energy from nature, and transforming into real, usable electricity.

Solar Panels – now this is one of the most efficient ways you can exploit the natural energy of the sun. they are gaining in popularity these days, as energy bills seem to get higher and higher. You can now get solar powered systems that actually will put energy back into the grid, creating a surplus of energy! in my opinion, the only downfall solar panels have, is the fact that there is a very large initial cost to installing them. I’m not talking hundreds, but thousands of dollars to get you up and running. Another potential drawback is what if you don’t receive a lot of sunshine in your climate? Is your solar panel system going to generate you enough electricity all year round?

Wind Turbine Generators – these are also very popular at the moment, and there is no disputing the effectiveness of all of those wind farms around the globe, they produce thousands of kilowatts of power. Which is fantastic, if you don’t mind a big, ugly stick in the middle of your back yard with a huge fan attached to it. not very practical, pretty ugly, and hence, that’s why they belong on a wind farm not in your yard! There are smaller versions available if search around, but how much power do these units actually produce? hardly enough, and once again, we are at the mercy of mother nature, if there is no wind, there is no power.

Both of the previous mentioned systems are great for back up power, but what about replacing your power need entirely? have you heard of magnetic electric generators? A breakthrough technology that is now available to every household. It is a generator that is powered by magnets, has zero emissions, and once running, produces enough electricity to keep itself running and supply you with all of your energy needs. Sounds fantastic right? Well, lets compare it to the two traditional models above.

Magnetic Electricity Generators – Run Quietly and efficiently Harness natural Enrergy Install easily into your home Require little maintenance Potentially replace your entire electricity needs

Magnetic electricity generators don’t cost thousands, or even hundreds of dollars (well maybe $100 or so, but defenitely cheaper than the other options.) Rely on ideal weather conditions, they can run in hot or cold weather, rain, hail or shine! take up valuable space in your home.
